Hello lovelies! Today I'm going to be reviewing I Heart Revolution's 24k Gold bar. This palette is in the old formula of makeup revolution eye shadows with more build-able mattes, and in the same older layout with 2 shades slightly large than the others. The colours in the palette are a pretty mix of soft, warm-tones with a few pops of colour.

The outer packaging.

The Packaging.

The packaging of the 24k Gold bar is stunning, it might be my favourite out of the range.

The packaging is the same as the other chocolate bars; a plastic chocolate bar casing with melted chocolate drips over the top. However, this one is unique in the sense that the drips over the brown chocolate bar and in a stunning, shiny, chrome gold. Unfortunately, the names of the shades are not printed on the palette, instead they are on a plastic insert. I find this inconvenient as I often lose the plastic insert or it scratches the pans of eye shadow.

Swatches

The colours in the palette are a pretty mix of warm toned mattes and shimmers with a few pops of metallic olive green and different shades of gold. I have swatched the colours once in natural daylight and once with flash to show you a true representation of the colours in the palette.

Swatches in daylight.

As you can see, the swatches did not perform the best. I found the majority of the shades in the palette to feel dry and stiff and to actually crumble when touched. This can make the palette quite messy to work with, although it does not mean the eye shadows will not perform well on the eyes. Some of the shades felt creamier and more pigmented than others, specifically; 'Glacier' a metallic olive green, 'Solitaire' a cool gold and 'Stone' a matte peach.

Swatches with flash.

The mix of colours in the palette are well balanced; there are shades you can use in your transition in warm, mauve and cooler tones ('Stone' 'Spirit' and 'Gilded') deeper tones to create a more smokey look ('Crown' 'Satellite' and 'Spice') and some pretty shimmers for the lid. I was happy to a matte cream shade ('Lustre') that can be used to set the eyelid and to help with blending, however, I found that there was no shimmery colour light enough to highlight my inner corner or brow bone, as they were all too deep and warm for my fair skin. I really liked some of the rosier tones in the palette ('Spirit' and 'Spice') and they actually gave me ABH soft glam vibes. Also, the metallic green pop ('Glacier') is a nice addition to the palette and create a beautiful contrast against the other warm shades. Personally, I think some of the colours in the palette are a bit similar and could have been replaced to create a more versatile palette. For example, the shades 'Flare' and 'Real' are both rosy toned, purple/browns, 'Moonlit' and 'Gem' are both pinky peach shimmers, and 'Stun' and 'Bling' are both warm golds. I think a deeper plum shimmer and a lighter highlight shade may have added more versatility and made the palette more wearable for lighter skin tones.

The Eye Look.

For this eye look, I wanted to do a more wearable 'Soft Glam' style look playing with the rosier tones in the palette. Firstly, I set the lid with the shade 'Lustre' and blended 'Spirit' through my transition. I then deepened the crease with 'Spice' and blended 'Crown' into the outer corner. I then used my finger and applied 'Moonlit' to the lid, I found this shade to be very stiff and it did not give me the pop I wanted for my eye. I had to build 'Moonlit' up a few times to get the desired intensity. I then used the shade 'Real' on the outer third of my lid to blend 'Moonlit' and 'Crown' together. Next, I blended the shade 'Glacier' along my lower lash line, with a pencil brush, to add a pop of olive green. Along the upper lash line, I used an angled brush with the shade 'Satellite' to create a soft wing. For the inner corner and brow bone I ended up going in with my face highlighter as, as I said before, none of the shades in the palette were light enough for me to use as a highlight.

Final Thoughts.

I like this palette, but I do not think it is a must have. The shades and tones in this palette are pretty and suitable for every day and more glamorous looks. I think if you are a beginner this eye shadow palette would be good for you as the shades are easy to blend and not super pigmented. However, if you own a lot of eye shadow palettes you probably have a lot of similar shades. Overall, this palette is pretty but not a must have!

Thank you for reading!
