Hello Lovelies!

Today I'm going to be reviewing the Gingerbread Spice palette by Too Faced. The palette was originally released last Christmas and intended to be a limited edition product. However Too Faced decided to bring it back as part of the 'Christmas in July' campaign. I was happy happy when it was announced that this palette would be coming back as I wanted it when it was originally released but never got it. Although I do understand the frustration of makeup collectors who originally bought the product thinking it was limited edition only for it to be brought back out a few months later.

On with the review...

The Packaging.

The outer packaging of the product is a gorgeous metal tin, similar to the chocolate bar palettes from Too Faced range, decorated to look like a gingerbread biscuit. It has cute piping around the boarder of the palette and a little gingerbread man on the front. Strangely, the Gingerbread Spice palette does not have a magnetic closure like the chocolate bar palette and so it seems to be less sturdy as the lid does not stay shut. This could just be a fault with my palette though as I have heard others say that they have a magnetic closure. The mirror inside the palette is small, large enough to see your eyes and do your eye shadow but not large enough to do your entire face. This is because, as you can see form the first picture, the mirror has a piped border and a little gingerbread man next to it, rather than it being the whole back of the lid.

Swatches.

The colour scheme of the palette is gorgeous, it is a mix of toasty, warm colours with a few pops of bright metallics and deep plums. I think it fits the gingerbread theme nicely as there are lots of warm browns and spicy tones as well as some colourful pops for the gingerbread man buttons and lighter shades like the icing.

Too Faced Gingerbread Spice palette swatches, Row 1.
  • Powdered Sugar - Matte light cream shade with subtle yellow undertones. Perfect for setting the lid or adding a matte highlight. This shade performed nicely, it was creamy and pigmented and added a decent amount of colour in one application.

  • Spiked Eggnog - Metallic light champagne. This colour is gorgeous for an inner corner or brow bone highlight or even all over the lid. The coverage is stunning as it is so creamy. When used with a damp brush, the shade becomes even more foiled on the eye.

  • Gumdrop - Matte bright fuchsia. This shade felt a little bit drier to swatch and needed to be built up. However, when used on the lid it performs nicely, it blends well and although is is not the most pigmented, the colour can be built up to full intensity.

  • Gingerbread - Matte, medium brown with warm orange undertones. I love this shade, it is strongly pigmented, velvety and blend-able and it is a gorgeous toasty brown perfect for the transition, through the crease or even to deepen a look.

  • Warm and Toasty - Metallic, bright yellow-gold. When I first seen this shade I thought I would hate it, it is an extremely bright yellow-gold which normally I don't like. However, this has turned out to be one of my favourite shades in the palette. The texture of the eye shadow is buttery and almost wet to the touch. It applies beautifully all over the lid and can be used wet for an ultra foiled, high-shine finish.

  • Ooo Burn - Metallic medium plum. This is another highlight pigmented, creamy shimmer but slightly stiffer than 'Warm and Toasty.' This shade blended out nicely through the outer V for me added a deep plum tone to any look. It could also be used all over the lid for a smoky plum effect.

  • Frostbite Me - Glittery off-white topper with slight yellow undertones. This shade is a bit strange, it is a flakey, chunky glitter dispersed through a sheer pigmented creamy white. When using a brush in the pan, the eye shadow flakes and clumps and then creates a lot of glitter flakes on your cheeks. It picks up smoother with a finger but needs firm pressure for it to transfer onto the eye. I used this shade on my inner corners and it added a pretty sparkly effect, however it is very difficult to work with.

  • Lookie at My Cookie - Matte soft peachy pink. This shade is wonderfully pigmented, opaque and smooth to apply. It blends out beautifully through the transition, adding a light peachy pink tone to any look.

  • Spice is Nice - Matte, bright orange. Another favourite of mine, this orange is highly pigmented in one tap of the pan, it is bright, smooth and blend-able. Perfect for adding warmth to any look.

  • Oh Snap - Matte medium, rosy, coral with gold glitter flecks. This shade is hard to describe, it is a transitional colour on my skin tone but has a slight rosy undertone. The golden glitter flecks buff away when blended onto the eye but the shade is smooth and build-able.

  • Bake it til you make it - Metallic bronze copper. Rich, opaque and creamy. It picks up easily on the brush or a finger and applies smoothly to the lid. When applied with a wet brush it amps up the shine and makes it gorgeously foiled.

  • Spice of Life - Another shade I was excited for in the palette. This is a stunning metallic olive gold. It is rich, buttery and softly pressed into the pan so it picks up well with a brush or finger. It has no fallout due to its almost wet consistency and blends easily across the lid.

  • Sugar Daddy - Matte, light baby pink. This shade has good colour payoff, although it is very light so may not show up well on a lot of skin tones. It is softly textured but a bit drier than the other, creamier mattes in the palette. Despite this, the shade blends easily across the eye and the pigment can be built up nicely.

  • Figgy Pudding - Matte medium plummy purple. This shade is pigmented in one application and has a slight cooler tone than most of the shades in the palette. This makes the palette more versatile in my opinion as you have some cooler toned options. When tapping into this shade, there is a bit of kick up in the pan due to the shadow being slightly drier than other mattes but it performs wonderfully.

  • Hot Toddy - Metallic DUO-CHROME pink plum with a gold shift. This shade is stunning, the duo-chrome pink to gold shift is stunning as when the light hits the shadow shifts colour. The pigmentation is fully opaque in one swipe of a flat brush or finger and it can be foiled by using a wet brush.

  • Reindeer Paws - Matte deep plum brown. This shade is slightly less pigmented than the other mattes in the palette but can be built up easily to full pigmentation. The texture was soft but slightly dusty, however there was no fallout on my face and it blended out beautifully.

  • Gingerbread Latte - Matte medium brown with golden undertones. This shade is beautiful for the crease or transition, it has build-able pigmentation and is easily blend-able with no fallout.

  • Spiced Rum - Metallic dark bronze. This shade was pressed softer in the pan compared to the other metallics in the palette, meaning it has a more crumbly texture and cause a bit of fallout on my face. I found that when applying this eye shadow, to minimise fallout use only a little bit at a time or use a wet brush. The pigmentation is very strong and it looks gorgeous on the eye.

Too Faced Gingerbread Spice eye shadow, Look 1.

Eye Look 1 - Hot Toddy.

For this eye look I wanted to showcase the shade 'Hot Toddy' as it is my first duo-chrome eye shadow!

  1. Set the lid with 'Powdered Sugar'

  2. Apply 'Gingerbread Latte' in the transition.

  3. Deepen the crease with 'Gingerbread'

  4. Blend 'Reindeer Paws' in the outer V.

  5. Swipe 'Hot Toddy' across the lid,

  6. Highlight inner corners and brow bone with 'Spiked Eggnog'

  7. Use a damp angled brush in 'Reindeer Paws' to line eyes.

Overall, I really liked this look, it was warm and really showed off the duo-chrome shift in 'Hot Toddy.'

Eye Look 2 - Spice of Life.

Too Faced Gingerbread Spice eye shadow, Look 2.

For this look I wanted to play with the olive green in the palette and create a subtle spot light eye.

  1. Set the lid with 'Powdered Sugar.'

  2. Blend 'Gingerbread Latte' through the transition.

  3. Apply 'Gumdrop' through the crease and blend it out with 'Spice is Nice.'

  4. Using a damp flat brush, swipe 'Spice of Life' all over lid.

  5. Using finger, apply 'Warm and Toasty' to the centre lid.

  6. Blend 'Reindeer Paws' into the outer V.

  7. Using a liner brush, stamp 'Reindeer Paws' into the lash line.

  8. Blend 'Spiked Eggnog' across the brow bones as a highlight.

  9. Using baby finger, press 'Frostbite Me' into the inner corner.

This is my favourite look I did with this palette, I loved the combination of the olive green and gold, and the slight bit of pink through the crease really brought out the green. It also made my eyes look brighter and bluer which is always nice.

Eye look 3 - Spiked Eggnog.

Too Faced Gingerbread Spice eye shadow palette, Look 3.

For this last eye look, I wanted to do something a little bit more neutral and every day.

  1. Set the lid with 'Powdered Sugar.'

  2. Blend 'Oh Snap' through the transition.

  3. Apply 'Spice is Nice' to outer V

  4. Swipe 'Spiked Eggnog' across the lid.

  5. Blend 'Spiked Eggnog' into 'Spice is Nice' using 'Bake it til you Make it.'

  6. Press 'Reindeer Paws through the lash line.

Overall, this look was really easy and worked well for a simple, every day eye. I paired it with a bolder, burnt orange lip and I think it looked gorgeous.

Final Thoughts.

BUY THIS PALETTE.

This is the most gorgeous, warmed toned palette I own and I think it will be perfect moving in to Autumn and Winter, although I think these warmed toned, bright colours work all through the year. Almost all of the shades in the palette are perfectly formulated, with a beautiful, buttery texture and strong pigmentation. The only shade that is a bit of a dud in the palette is 'Frostbite Me' but it does give a pretty, glittery effect when applied with a finger, using firm pressure. Overall, I love this palette, it might be my favourite Too Faced palette but please don't make me choose.
