Hello lovelies!

Today I'm going to be reviewing the Chocolate Bon Bons palette by Too Faced. This palette has a lot of mixed reviews online so I'm here to share my opinion on the colour scheme, formula, blend-ability and versatility.

First of all, I would just like to put in a disclaimer. I bought my Chocolate Bon Bons palette at TK Maxx on discount for around £20.00, down from its usual £39.00. When the palette came, the shade 'Dark Truffle' was completely broken and had spread into other shades. Luckily, TK Maxx customer service was fab and I received a full refund but was allowed to keep the palette. After a little bit of clean up, the rest of the shades in the palette are unaffected by 'Dark Truffle' but the palette itself has some staining around the mirror. Not a big deal for me but thought I would mention it anyway.

On with the review...

Product Description.

" A candy-coated confection of 16 matte and shimmer eye shadow shades in cool pops of color, sugary brights, and beautiful go-to neutrals- all infused with our chocolate-scented cocoa powder formula." - Too Faced.

The Packaging.

I really enjoy Too Faced Chocolate bar collection packaging. It is a tin box which gives a vintage, chocolate box feel. The outer packaging of the Bon Bon's palette is a light milkshake pink with embossed hearts on top. It also has a deeper pink heart with the name of the palette and the signature 'Chocolate' sign from the rest of the collection.

The inside of the palette is also quite unusual. 14 of the eye shadows are in little heart shaped pans which remind me of a box of individual chocolates, so cute! The other two shades in the palette follow the same style as the other chocolate bar palettes, they are a matte and a shimmery highlight shade in a longer pan as you may use these colours up quicker.

Unfortunately, the mirror in the lid of the palette is quite small and hard to use. The frame around the mirror takes up a lot of the lid space meaning you can only see your eyes in the mirror rather than your whole face. Personally, I would prefer it if Too Faced did not frame the mirrors and instead used the full lid space for a mirror.

Swatches

The colours in the palette are a simple mix of neutral browns, greys and taupes with a few pops of pinks, purples and a teal blue. I really love this colour selection as the shades are very wearable for everyday yet also have some deeper shades for more glam looks.

Row 1: Without flash.

Row 1:

  • Almond Truffle - Matte, light rosy brown beige.

  • Satin sheets - Duo-chrome pink to gold highlight.

  • Sprinkles - Matte pale pink.

  • Molasses Chip- Metallic beige gold.

  • Malted - Matte cool brown.

Row 1: With Flash.

All of the shades in Row 1 swatched very nicely, they were slightly drier in texture but still felt soft and blended nicely onto the arm. The shade 'Satin Sheets' is a favourite of mine, I know it is a cult favourite from the Too Faced brand, and has appeared across many of their palettes. It is a beautiful, pink to gold highlight shade that could be worn on the eyes or as a face highlight. Also, the shade 'Almond Truffle' would make a stunning transition shade. It is a cool beige with a slight rosy undertone making it beautiful for both warm and cooler toned looks.

Row 2: Without flash.

Row 2:

  • Cashew Chew - Matte, light cool toned grey/beige.

  • Cotton Candy - Metallic, cool toned, lilac/pink.

  • Cafe au lait - Metallic taupe grey with rosy undertones.

  • Bordeaux - Matte, rich red toned brown.

  • Mocha - Matte, mid-toned brown.

  • Blackcurrant - Matte deep purple/plum with glitter flecks.

Row 2: With Flash.

Row 2 contains my favourite shades in the entire palette. 'Cafe au Lait' is the most gorgeous light, taupe with a rosy undertone. Its cool toned, yet not completely grey making it more wearable and versatile for a variety of skin tones. The shade 'Cotton Candy' also surprised me. In the pan it appears to be a bubblegum pink yet when swatched, it has a cool, lilac undertone which makes it a much more wearable, and a less childish colour. 'Bordeaux' is also a stand out shade in the palette, it is so beautifully rich and can be used to deepen almost any look. Its reddish undertones also help to bring together the other warm shades in the palette like 'Molasses Chip' 'Sprinkles' and 'Mocha.'

Although, the shade 'Blackcurrant' was quite disappointing for me, it is a deep blackened purple which on my skin tone just appears as a greyish/brown with a slight hint of purple. I would have preferred it if Too Faced had have made 'Blackcurrant' a rich deep plum or a true purple so it could be used as a pop of colour on the eyes.

Row 3: Without Flash.

Row 3:

Without Dark Truffle

  • Pecan Praline - Matte cool grey/beige.

  • Totally Fetch - Satin, deep pink with blue reflect.

  • Earl Grey - Satin deep teal with grey undertone and glitter flecks.

  • Divinity - Matte cream.

Row 3: With Flash.

The shades in Row 3 are some of the more unique shades in the palette. 'Pecan Praline' is a beautiful dove grey, perfect for a cool toned transition. 'Totally Fetch' in my opinion is a bit of an odd colour for this palette, it is a hot pink yet quite warm but has a cool toned reflect to it. I don't think it pairs very well with the other shades in the palette and I can only really see a look with this shade using the other pink tones. 'Earl Grey' is similar to 'Blackcurrant' in the way that it is very blackened so appears less teal and more grey on the eyes. However, I actually prefer it with this type of shade as it makes the teal more wearable than a pure teal shade.

Eye Look: Cafe Au Lait.

For the eye look, I was really inspired by the shade 'Cafe au Lait.' If you know me, you know I love cool toned eye shadow and this rosy grey is quite unique to my collection. To begin I set my lid with 'Divinity' and blended 'Cashew Chew' through my crease. I then deepened the crease with a bit of 'Almond Truffle' and applied 'Cafe au Lait' to my whole lid with my finger. To blend the edges of 'Cafe au Lait' into the crease I used a small amount of 'Pecan Praline' which kept the look nice and cool. I then lined my eyes with 'Malted' and applied 'Satin sheets' to my inner corners and brow bone as a highlight.

Overall, I loved this look, it took 2 seconds to apply and all of the colours blended together super easily. 'Cafe au Lait' stood out on the lid as a gorgeous, yet sophisticated shimmer. I also noticed that the matte shades actually had a bit of a satiny sheen to them, especially 'Cashew Chew.' I think this helps with the blend-ability of the colours and actually creates a very high-end look to the eye shadow, similar to what I achieve with my Tom Ford quad. I did experience some kick back in the pan from most of the shades especially 'Satin sheets' however this doesn't bother me as I experienced no fall out of my face.

Final Thoughts.

I personally love the colour range and the formula of this palette. I believe the formula of this palette is very beginner friendly and the shadows are soft and blend easily, making it a lovely palette to work with. The colour scheme of this palette is beautiful to me, I can see a range of neutral-cool toned looks which can work all year around and the shades are quite versatile in the range of depth you have to work with.

Although, I do think cooler toned eye shadows are less popular as more people tend to lean towards warmer toned palettes. Also, I think if you have medium-to-deep skin, a lot of the shades may appear quite similar on your skin tone and there may not be a transitional shade which could work for you.

Overall, if you like the colours in this palette and they would work on your skin, I would say this palette is a must have! It is adorably packaged, the formula is soft and easy to work with and the shades are year-round shades.
